Pastor Jailed for 5 years for Sexual Abuse

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va_A Kenyan priest in Virginia pleaded guilty for sexually abusing an 11 year old girl and was consequently jailed for 5 years and nine months. However, Fr. Felix C. Owino’s 5 year sentence was suspended by the judge and ordered Owino to jail for nine months after a plea deal .He was given credit for the seven months he has already been in custody.

The sentencing took place last week on Friday, February 18 2011, in fairfax, Virginia.
                             Prosecutors said the Rev. Felix Owino, 44, was drinking the night he inappropriately touched an 11-year-old girl at a friend’s house in Herndon, Va. where he had been invited as a guest.

During the trial that took place late last year,Father Owino pleaded guilty to the charge.

"I did what they said," Owino told a Fairfax County, Va., judge in a soft-spoken voice.At the time, it was saif that if the judge approved the plea agreement, Owino won't serve more than five years in prison.

Officials said Owino also faces deportation back to his home country of Kenya.Owino most recently served as an associate pastor at St. Paul's parish in Weirton. Until June, he was also a faculty member in the philosophy department of Wheeling Jesuit University.

He was charged with one count of aggravated sexual battery stemming from a July 7 incident involving a child in Herndon, Va. Police said they were called to a home after a family reported Owino -- their house guest and longtime friend -- inappropriately touched a girl in their home.Prosecutors said Owino was watching a movie at the family's home when he moved to the back of the room next to the victim and rubbed the girl's hands and feet.

He then touched her in inappropriate places and told the girl, "Do not tell."The child told her mother, and the mother kicked Owino out of the house and ordered him to stay on the steps until police arrived. Prosecutors said Owino admitted he touched the girl and told police he'd not done anything like that before.

Prosecutors said the victim's family accepted the plea deal, and victims' advocates said families usually do that to protect their child from going to court.Although Owino made a plea deal with prosecutors for a maximum of 5 years, the judge made it clear the decision is ultimately up to him. He could reject the plea bargain out and give Owino the maximum sentence of 20 years.

Owino could also be deported because he's not an American citizen. Originally from Nairobi, Kenya, Owino was ordained in 1992 and is a member of the Religious Missionary Institute of the Apostles of Jesus, headquartered in Philadelphia.

He joined the faculty of Wheeling Jesuit in the fall of 2008 and taught for two consecutive terms, most recently instructed an online class. Prior to that, he worked at Magdalen College in New Hampshire and before that at Alvernia College in Reading, Pa.

The sentencing that sent Fr.Owino to jail took place last week on Friday.

A Kenyan Pastor in Lowell, Massachusetts have been defrocked after a sex scandal. The former Rev, Karimi was found guilty after several women came forward accusing the pastor for unwanted sexual advances. Mr. Karimi, married with children, created another firestorm when local pastors suggested a fund raising for him and prayers but refused to do the same to the victim. 
The new brewing firestorm is the fight of the church's 200,000 dollars which he believes he is entitled in the church account. The local pastors have called for a meeting on Sunday to resolve the conflict engulfing the local community of Lowell.

Donation Row Trial Date Set for March 23, 2011 in Collin County

When you think that you have heard it all, the ugly truth becomes hard to hide. After we exposed the behind the scene dealings with John Mugo Mwangi over the saga over donation money, the case is set for trial on March 23, 2011. The suit was filed by John Mugo Mwagi suing the defendant Peter Kanyiri who was the church warden. The trial for case number SC-10-313 Filed in McKinney, Texas will be tried at 10:30 am.

Mr. Mugo alleges that 10,000 was stolen from the church account when he was in jail, and he is suing for public good to recover the money. Interestingly, Mr. Mugo received 1733.00 from three churches after demanding the money that they received from Mr. Kanyiri claiming that they were his.

But who should really be suing? Is it the community that contributed the money for a course to help a jailed member of the community, or is it the individual who was in jail when all this drama was playing out?

During the trial date which is set on March 23, I would like all like minded people to come and listen how far their community leaders would fight to keep the members kitty. When documents that are subpoenaed come out to the public eye, all will have the sense to see the truth. But how do you sue for money you think you should have? Well welcome to the new diaspora .

Posting of Court Files

As one of the blogger has commented, it's only fair if we post the actual court papers filed by Rev. Mugo so that all the parties can understand either what is motivating him or perhaps his goal. Some people are even confused who is the defendants or the plaintiffs in this matter.

Posting of the documents will not violate Rev. Mugo's rights, because once you file a court case, it automatically becomes public record which by law is accessible to anyone. I will also post the motions filed by Rev.Mugo on a case previously filed at the High Court of Kenya, so that many of us who may not understand his moves, may at least understand his pattern and possibly his motivation.

That will give the public the chance to judge him solely on his actions. This site is a user generated site, and when you post profanity, it undermines the spirit of open communication. I hope all the commentary will stick to the facts and issues and avoid personalization albeit the high emotions involved. In the meantime, we hope all the concerned parties will do the right thing, because that is how we may avoid these actions from being repeated again.

Those are a Pack of Lies on Mr. Mugo; Says Bishop Herzog

The following is a reply I received from Bishop Herzog from New York, Pastor Mugo’s Bishop whom he practices his license under;

My Dear Brother and Sisters in Christ, 

The allegations from Promise are a pack of lies. Here are the facts:  

1. Rev. John jailed by INS for working while a student;

2. $10,000 required by the INS for bail;

3. On June 22, 2009 a harambee was held and $4900.00 was collected, of which 35 members of Saint Matthew's donated $2400.00. That $4900.00 was put into Saint Matthew's account;

4. On June 28 the Mercy Ministries Fellowship collected an additional
$2500.00 for the purpose to secure an attorney for Rev. John Mugo. The
collection was placed in Saint Matthew's account and the attorney was paid;

5. An additional $1500.00 was also given to a second attorney;

6. On June 24,2009, $10,000.00 was removed from Saint Matthew's account and given to the Senior Warden, Peter Kanyiri to send to INS;

7. Peter Kanyiri sent $10,000.00 to the INS with his name on the draft
instead of Saint Matthew's;
8. When the case was dismissed the INS sent a check for $10,000.00 to Peter Kanyiri since his name, and not Saint Matthew's, appeared on the original draft;

9. The refund should have been deposited in Saint Matthew's bank account and not
placed in Peter's personal account since that is where the money came from;

 10. Peter Kanyiri, on his own, decided to send Saint Matthew's money to six
Churches;

11. Presently, three of these six churches have returned the money to Saint
Matthew's account;

13 Rev. John Mugo did not and is not seeking funds for himself nor has he
requested meetings with any of the Pastors. He wants the money to be returned
to Saint Matthew's Church. (see attached email dated November 9, 2010)

Thats a Pack of Lies........Says Bishop Herzog

I had a good conversation today with the Anglican Bishop, The Rt. Rev. John A. Herzog, OSA regarding our differing opinion on the pending lawsuit against the members who bailed out Mr. Mugo from jail. We disagreed about most of the things without being disagreeable. He even asked me if I would like to run the church for him, and I graciously told him that I would like the job to be done by the experts. He also told me he has an open heart, and he is helping and has helped many Kikuyus get Green Cards. I graciously told him I don’t need one. He also told me that he has worked with Kikuyus all over the US, and I got curious to know where they are from back home. He told me that he has dealt mostly with Kikuyus from Kenya only. Well, you know let’s keep that aside for now, because it’s beside the point. From there we went down to business.

Don’t get me wrong, the issue about this blog is one, to make sure that the goodwill of the public about the funds is maintained, and the money is used for its intended use, if not, common law and common sense dictates that the money should go back to the public or an organizations that cares about the community.

For those who are new to the saga, when Pastor Mugo went to jail, the church had no funds to bail him out. So, honest Kenyans from the community came together and met in the house of one of the members and spent their personal time, resources to mobilize the community to see that one of their own was out of jail. And as they say, “…faith is no prisoner to reason”. When it comes to faith, you are allowed to be illogical. But this is a case about facts, and that’s why the community that contributed the funds needs an explanation from both the Bishop and Mr. Mugo

But according to the Bishop, get this, the money now does not belong to the community, it belongs to John Mugo wa Mwangi and company. Stop scratching your heads, which is what he said in our conversation. The minute the money was deposited in the church account to buy a cashier’s check to bond Mugo out, he believes technically the money belongs to the church. The Bishop also told me that the church has a chancery (that is a church lawyer I suppose) who will make sure the money is refunded to Brother John as he called him). I asked him why the law suit is filed by Mugo instead of St. Mathews, to which he could not explain. I asked him if he has any financial vested interest to the churches and the moneys, to which he said no.

I went at great lengths and pains to ask the Bishop if by any chance he contributed any funds that we do not know to help in the course, to which he said NO. 

 What is my point in publishing this blog, is this the kind of a people we have now become? Anyone who came to help this man did not have the intent of the money and the funds to be used for any other program. As I told the Bishop, we already have people arrested and sitting in the Immigration jails and the money should be used for such programs, to the beneficial of the community. TECHNICALLY, lawyers can prove anything. Technically, we can say Columbus discovered America, Technically. To make my point, let me tell you a story about a behaviorist who wanted to experiment on the thinking of different professionals. And so he invited an engineer first. He walked in, sat down and received his first and only question: What is two plus two? He did not hesitate and answered “of course it is four”. The researcher thanked him and sent him away.

The second in the experiment was an architect. They posed the same question: What is two plus two? The man posed for a moment and answered: “The answer is four. However, three plus one is also four. There are many ways of looking at it”. He thanked him and dismissed him.

Lastly to walk in was a lawyer. He was asked the same question. Unlike the composed scientists, he panicked. He stood up, went to the door and shut it. Then he carried his chair close to where the researcher was. Leaning towards them he told him: “You see, two plus two can become anything. What do you want it to be?”

What is my point? The lawyers can make two plus two become seven. In other words, their interpretation of the funds will depend on where they stand. Unlike the engineer who saw the figures in absolute terms, everything around it is relative and can be interpreted anyhow depending on interest.

Technically, I told the Bishop, should Mugo be sitting in jail waiting for the brainy people to argue technically who would end up with the money once our brother gets out of jail. What will happen to the unlikely person who may be arrested and asks for community assistance? Technically, with examples like Mugo’s, technically I don’t know.

Pastor Mugo in Dallas Sues People In Kenya To Keep Donation Share!!

Donation row over 10,000 dollars contributed to bond out a Dallas pastor who had spent a month at Haskell Detention Center has taken another turn. According to the law suit filed at Collin County Court in December10, 2010, Revered Pastor John Mugo is now suing a former treasurer of his church on claims that the former secretary to the church was the signatory of the $10,000 that the well-wishers contributed to bond him out. The pastor alleges that he should keep all the money..

 The pastor now alleges that it belongs to him even after the case was dismissed.  The lady who is being sued by Pastor Revered Mugo went back to Kenya for good about 6 months ago. The new turn of events seems to be a new chapter on the career of Dallas pastor who is no stranger to jails and the justice system. According to the local Kenyans in the Dallas Metroplex, the new turn of the events has shocked even those who had little sympathy for the self-proclaimed revered. The twist in the story is that the same female being sued by Pastor Mugo, is the same person who invited and hosted the pastor in the United States! The pastor was accommodated by the female defendant until he was able to move out with his friends according to reliable sources.

Although pastor Revered Mugo is suing for 10,000 dollars which was donated by well-wishers to bond him out of Detention, 3 of the local churches have already refunded 1700 dollars each after he harassed the local pastors to get the money back. The pastor is alleging that he has the blessings of his Bishop to go after the money, although the senior leadership of the Anglican Church did not contribute any money to help in his legal troubles when he was in jail. Pastor Mugo practices under the license of The Rt. Rev. John A. Herzog, OSA  who is based in New York. The case is scheduled to go for trial in early summer.

Dallas Pastor Sues to Get Donation Money!

My Sunday school teacher used to tell us this: ‘‘God is too slow, but He is never late!”. Almost one year ago today, we organized almost everyone with a soul and a pause to help assist one of our own, Rev. John Mugo Mwangi to rescue him from the jaws of immigration jail where he was

languishing for imagining an idea of planting a church without the blessings of his senior pastor. We all know the people suspected of putting him there, but that is beside the point here.
I am not writing to defend Rev Ngubia for his failed tricks which by God did not work. We all worked together to pull a man from jail so that he can have a fair trial. As naive as we were, we contributed enough money to the tune of 10,000 dollars! (That is about 800,000 shillings for those who are poor in math like me). The money was used to secure the bond so that Mugo could fight his case in court as a free man. I believe many of us would agree it's better to be perceived as guilty in the streets of Dallas than being innocent but in jail.

What’s my point in this story? .... The man is out of jail...... the case was dismissed. The bond money was refunded....where did the money go??? Apparently, for the sake of transparency, the committee that was in charge of the Harambee immediately after the case on Mr. Mugo was dismissed, the checks were mailed, and Mr. Mugo also received a check equal for his church just like the other five churches; 1700 dollars. End of story to most people, not so first especially for someone with Pastor Mugo IQ.
You may think that any sane person after sitting at Haskell Detention center for a month would worry more about his current status or to give thanks to the people who spent hours of selfless hours to get him out of jail or worse request the remaining balance to be refunded to the people who contributed the money.
Early this month, barely one year and six months from his release, Mr. Mugo filed a case in Collin County court demanding the 10,000 that was raised to his name to be given turned over to him. On his court pleading, Mr. Mugo alleges that he is demanding ALL that money was stolen from him while in jail, not to mention on the day he went to jail, he was pulled out by the immigration officers out  of a 7-11 store where he worked as a cashier barely making $8.50 per hour. He is even suing not for 10,300 less the 1700 he received, nope, and he wants the whole 10,000. Yap, the who whole 10,000!
Mr. Mugo has had the bold nerves to intimidate one local pastor who easily had the decency to refund” his” money as he claims. Now, he has gotten even bolder, he is suing the person who bonded him out for the 10,000. As of yesterday, he was meeting with the leadership of another local church where he was demanding another of "his" 1700 dollars. As an insurance card, the case for the whole amount (10000) is still pending in court!
I want everyone to hold their peace as I asked a simple question. When we as a society are confronted by numnuts of leaders like this, what do we do? Don't get me wrong. Everything Mugo knows about Churches and pastoralism in America is only what he did learn under the mentor ship of non-other than Rev Ngubia. We all know that an apple does not fall far away from the tree. One, we need more than courage: we need innovation. Let me explain using the story of Gorgon Medusa, the most destructive monster in Greek mythology. When I read this story, it describes most of our church leaders today, the monsters before us.

According to the mythology, Instead of hair the Medusa had large spitting snakes crawling over her face. The face itself was so ugly that anyone who looked at her turned into a stone. No amount of courage would dislodge her. But one warrior by the name of Perseus came up with an innovation. He polished his brass shield to the point that it looked like a mirror and then approached her with his face covered by the shield. All the Medusa could see was her ugly image with snakes slithering all over her face. And the more she looked at this image, the more irate she became. At the height of her rage and confusion, Perseus emerged from underneath the shield and promptly destroyed her.
We all know that this kind of greed and madness will not take him far. But how do we stop these acts from happening again? First we need to know that this is who this people are. Do not be fooled by titles and the long robes they wear on Sundays. This nature of greed is their character. For us to understand this kind of people, we need to understand what motivates them. First of all, I may be wrong, but i really doubt that he is pulling this stunt by himself. This kind of behavior only thrives if this kind of behavior and thinking is encouraged by a group of people who believes like him.

We need to hold a mirror against the ‘‘medusas’’ over the cheap infighting and scandals here in America for so long. This monster is irritated beyond. There are enough symptoms of this if one looks closely. We call upon any follower of his man, or anyone with a sense of decency to talk to him. There is a certain level of greed that is beyond human comprehension. Even a hyena as greedy as he is known would not eat his own children... but this crop of leaders would just do that.'

But can we change them or what do we do as a society? To answer your question, let me narrate a story about a famous Nigerian wise man that moved from village to village answering complex questions. But one day, he met his match: a clever Yoruba boy. The boy had a butterfly in his hand and was out to prove him wrong. He was going to ask the wise man if the butterfly was dead or alive.

If he said it was dead, he would release it; if he said it was alive, he would squeeze it to death. Either way, the wise man would lose. And so the boy cut through the crowds and confronted the wise man with a question:“… Dead or Alive?” The wise man was puzzled. He examined the boy wisely and after a few minutes, he told him: “… it all depends on you!”

I think that it all depends on us as a people to either tolerate this kind of madness, or to call this crooks out by the bull horns so that those people who may not know their wicked ways to judge them from their actions.

We call upon the Kenyan Diaspora to take the time for the New Year and reflect on our leaders, so that we can forge a better community as Kenyans.

Immigration Not the Issue Here

It is not the policy of Trinity Ushindi Ministry Church to disclose internal church communication but due to the extra ordinary situation we find ourselves in we feel obligated to do so.

You may be aware that through the actions of John Mugo Mwangi, divisions have been sown within the membership of the church. These divisions are the work of the evil one whose objective is to sow disunity among Gods people.

A lot of untruth has been spread about this issue. Our duty is to address this misinformation. Never at any time was the issue between John Mugo Mwangi and the church one of immigration. The church chose to communicate with John at a personal and private level cautioning him against his actions and the injury he was inflicting on the church. John chose to use the public forum (including publishing contents of a private letter on the web) and the immigration debate to handle the issue and elicit public support.

We have had to deal with alot of upleasant and ungodly communication from John and his supporters. Below are links to a sample of these letters. We present them here as a way of alerting our membership and web users of the schemes that are underway to destroy our christian unity.

First They Came......

I promised my self that i would read all the mails addressed from trinity church with the full attention they deserve. Sadly, the more you read them, they remind me of our village drunk we use to have. The more he would shout, the more he imagined in his head that the fellow villagers were scared of him.
As a former member of Trinity church, i am amused first to know that WE, as i read above, that we had scholarship programs that benefited our select few. I don't know about you, but most public (i assume in most open societies, scholarships are announced in all notice boards for all to see and apply.For those who have been recipients, do you think its a good idea to share with the members who supposedly are funding the kitty on how to benefit from the funds?
According to the records posted online by Trinity church, the total income of the church in 2008 was 83000. For the same church to spend almost 18000 on one individual raises more questions than answers. As members, do you think they have the right to know how many other deserving students we are sending to colleges, not to mention how many members have the qualifications, and all what is missing is the funds?
The second paragraph of the letter is both laughable if not tragic. Let me just quote the letter..."The agreement with John was that he would voluntarily support the ministry of our Pastor in his ministry. However, John was under the discipline of his Bishop in Thika in Kenya. He had divided the Christians in his parish, shut the bishop out of the church and took the Bishop to court until he was ordered to vacate the church (a testimony that John said in Church)".
Does the person who wrote the letter really knows the meaning of the word voluntary.According to the letter, pastor Mugo was supposed to support voluntarily.According to my dictionary, it is proceeding from the will or from one's own choice or consent. If i agree to voluntarily give you a ride to work every morning, do i have the right to stop my services one day when i feel like?
I do not know this Recor , or who he is, but with friends like him, surely you do not need enemies. As the letter says, the Bill Recor or Recor bill (forgive me i don't know which comes first), wrote a "good faith letter " which he addresses Pastor Mugo as dangerous man who should be stopped. I don't know about you, but this guys want to make us believe that they were soo much concerned by Pastor Mugo's well being that they had to write to his school, his bishop and and another highness somewhere in Kenya, not even forgetting to include his Kenya's Safaricom number!
Finally, let all take it that Pastor Mugo was not in good standing (don't ask me with who or what), did Pastor Ngobia came to learnt about that in 2 weeks?.Did they know know that in 3 years when they were giving him scholarships of 18000 and grants? Was he good then, or by then it did not matter. Was he defrocked when they were both giving Communions and baptizing kids?Did he feel that it was less important then to tell his members that he was under investigations, or that he had/has been deflocked whatever that means?
Finally, the Recor charges that Mugo is surrounding himself and i quote "Through gossip, half-truths and what appear to be outright lies, John has sewn much confusion, splitting apart friends and even family members. He has smeared and defamed Pastor Jacob Ngobia Muiruri, and has lured unsuspecting Christians into a mire of illegal and spiritually poisonous activity. John has caused a great harm to the Church and must be stopped."
Nothing against bill, but when one chooses to go to Catholic, Jehovah Witness or Thaai thathaiya ngai thaai, he or she subconsciously rates any other religion or church as inferior than the one he or she attends. Most of us respect that freedom, to respect others whom we may diagree with. Second, we do have the right in this country, to assemble and worship where and with whom we see fit. The bill of Rights guarantee that Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right includes freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his [her] choice, and freedom either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his [her] religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.
3. No one shall be subject to coercion which would impair his [her] freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his [her] choice.The constitution does not talk about flocking or deflocking. You can preach wearing a turban if you wish to; nor do you need a certificate to preach. There is a good reason people worship where they do. That is the reason people drive from Plano to Dallas, by passing 20 holy spirit filled churches, yet they go to a particular church.We may not understand why they do it, but we should just respect their choices.Just because Mugo is not submitting to a mzungu doctorine does not mean that the followers are lost. And by the way, what is soo poisonous about starting a church?
Until we learn from from words spoken by Pastor Niemoller, i will be sweating stones if i have no papers and i worship in same church. if they can do that to the people at the front, what do you think they can do to a regular Joe. Was that not the message, to begin with??

Lessons Learnt

My i take this opportunity to thank all those people who devoted their time, money, prayers and personal sacrifices to assist Rev. Mugo finish the first of his many handles.
Personally, i would like to sum up the comments on the blog; i agree that we can disagree without being disagreeable. I think i have no time to debate whether Rev.Ngobia, and other titled high priests are flocked or defrocked. Majority of us DO NOT CARE. Most of the USA great preachers have not even entered the gates of college (Rod Presley, Joel Oesteen... just to name a few) leave alone theology schools, where the qualification to get an admission has more to go with your church register more than your moral convictions.
I feel encouraged though because i have not seen a single blog discussing how uplifting their Sunday service was, nor how many people came to Christ on Sunday. There is a great chance that we will go back to the basics. We are discussing trivialities that at the end of the day, will not improve either of us.
I am not withholding any positive nor negative critics on the blog as long as people work on some civility during the discussions. We were objective enough to post the response of Mr. Ngobia to it's full, and i wanted everyone to judge how dumb or bright his response was.
I was just curious that during the three years that the two men worked together, i really wonder why Mr. Ngobia never revealed to any of the members all about defrocking and 18,000 dollars, which according to the letter, he claims he knew.
There are some people who feel angry, and i do not deny them the right to be heard. But how you respond to a fool throwing mud at you determine whether you will end up with a poodle of mad or a speckle.
As one blogger commented, it is a matter of common knowledge that he (Mr. Ngobia has worked illegally here as many have, and for the doubters can buy a basic report on line for a few bucks.) The detractors are arguing that since he threw the first stone, everyone should call the 1-866-DHS-2-ICE and use the same tactics he used and i believe that the results will not be very different from Rev. Mugo, just by proving that he has used fake I-9 forms to apply for a job.I would like him to post a response that it has no merit, and i will not mind posting back the documents just here for the truth to stand.
But the question i do have is, where will we end up if we use Ngobia's eye for an eye logic.
Sometimes, forgiveness works better than getting even. It is not only biblical but the best logical way to deal with the issue.
We are in a foreign land, where our goal is supposed to be our brothers keeper. If one of us is deported, will i buy his car, house or pay his bills?. The answer is no.
I am also happy to note that we are not disagreeing which church is praying more than the other, nor which church is feeding more of the hungry. And i dearly wait for that day to come.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The Pastor, Elders and Faithful members of Trinity Church Ushindi Ministry would like to issue the following statement of the facts to set the record straight over the issue of John Mugo Mwangi who we all love.

John joined our Church three (3) years ago, from the Anglican Diocese of Thika in Kenya. Trinity Church has been supporting John through scholarship of $6,000 per year and for three years he was at Trinity we paid $18,000.

The agreement with John was that he would voluntarily support the ministry of our Pastor in his ministry. However, John was under the discipline of his Bishop in Thika in Kenya. He had divided the Christians in his parish, shut the bishop out of the church and took the Bishop to court until he was ordered to vacate the church (a testimony that John said in Church).

In Christian love we wanted to help John to settle in the USA by helping him to file for a religious visa with the hope that his family would join him too. However Mugo could not get a letter of good standing from his Bishop, which is part of the requirement. We initiated a process of reconciliation between Mugo and the Bishop. We advised Mugo to write a letter of apology, which he did and some months later we supported him to travel to Kenya as a follow-up where they had a meeting. The Bishop requested him for time to make a decision. We were still waiting for the Bishops response but John decided to join another church.

When John told us of his plans to leave Trinity Church and start his own Church. We had a meeting with him and he promised us, that (1) He would not start his church within the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Dallas. (2) That he was not in a hurry to start a church, and that he would update us when the time comes. (3) He promised that he would not divide Christians at Trinity Church. In return we promised to offer our moral and financial support when he was ready to start his Church. Unfortunately a few days from that meeting he announced invitations to Trinity members to inaugurate his Church. It appears that Mugo had been all along planning and scheming behind our back to split Trinity church.

When Mugo left Trinity Church we soon realized that he had put himself in a dangerous situation because of his legal status and so we approached him to reconsider his decision to start a Church but he was adamant and refused to meet or discuss with anyone of us.

We therefore decided to confidentially alert Mugo and the Bishop of the Church he had joined through a Pastoral letter within the Church of the facts and danger that Mugo had exposed himself to;

Trinity Rector Rev. Bill Lovell wrote a letter to Johns new Bishop. This letter was not anyway punitive at all and was meant in good faith, to once again request Mugo to reconsider, repent and seek reconciliation. The Bishop was informed that:

1. John Mugo Mwangi is not a priest in good standing in the Diocese of Thika or any diocese in the Anglican Church of Kenya. His credentials are invalid for transfer. That John was “sacked” from the Diocese of Thika, for issues of pastoral integrity. That John caused a lot of harm in the Diocese, and that he is “not a man of good character”, and that he is “extremely dangerous.”

Please note that this is what Bishop Githiga who is John’s Bishop said about him.

1. That John Mugo Mwangi was violating the terms of his Student visa by starting a church and being financially supported by

The group he has gathered around himself.

1. That John Mugo continues to cause scandal and division among the faithful here in Dallas. Through gossip, half-truths and what appear to be outright lies, John has sewn much confusion, splitting apart friends and even family members. He has smeared and defamed Pastor Jacob Ngobia Muiruri, and has lured unsuspecting Christians into a mire of illegal and spiritually poisonous activity. John has caused a great harm to the Church and must be stopped.

The rector begged John’s Bishop;
“To take preemptive action and direct Mugo to immediately stop his tainted church plant.
Regrettably, his illicit behavior has made it impossible at this point for him to be allowed to continue his church work in Dallas in any form. He needs to repent, humbly submit to church authority, dismiss his followers (with apology), and get back to his studies until such time that he reconciles with his Bishop in Kenya.”

Against all ethics and Canon Law Mugo decided to make public a pastoral letter addressed to his Bishop to his members, with a clear intent of incitement. As a result threatening and abusive letters were written to Rector Bill, the Church and even pastor Ngobia. The Issue now took a different turn and the Church institution took over the matter.

With that public exposure, Mugo made himself vulnerable to investigations which may have led to his eventual arrest. Nobody can or should be blamed for what has happened to him but Mugo himself for his lack of judgment and failure to listen to counsel.

It is imperative to know that we at Trinity do not intend in any form or shape to report any of our current and former members to immigration. These are blatant lies hatched and spread by people of extreme questionable character and others have been fighting our ministry for years. It's important to know that some of these people have conned some in our community with fictitious promises. Others are relishing this moment for their personal gains as they have been fighting us for years. We are in ministry of mercy and service to Christ. It's our belief that God will do his will and we are your friends, not otherwise.

Let us all continue to pray that John Mugo (sic) will repent and be reconciled to God and his Church.
We at Trinity Church will continue to cherish and value the opportunities that God has given us to serve our community and we will forge ahead with the Gospel ministry.

tanishing my name

This follows my message that I left on your phone yesterday May 6, 2009.

I have received word that you are claiming that I called the INS to get you. Now with all due respect I am saved and this is something I can never do. Please, remember that you started tarnishing my name and character among our Christians by saying that we have kicked you out of Trinity. You used this as a good reason to seek sympathy and get sympathizers and followers to start your Church. My concern is that my name is even now being tarnished and you need to know that if this false allegations does not stop, I will have to take legal or any desirable action to clear my name. I have my dignity and freedom to safeguard if there is need.

John, I am still grieving for the death of my mother and more so because of the way you betrayed my trust in you. Healing will indeed take along time but it will come at the Lords time. You divided our Christians who we had gathered together for six years. You actually did this even after we requested you as a brother in Christ, to be careful not to divide Trinity Church members. For your own selfish ends you went ahead and separated us. Please remember your promise and that of Rev. Munania to me that you won’t do anything to damage our relationship and that of the Church of Christ .

Please inform your members and friends who are spreading the allegations to stop tarnishing my name.

I continue to pray that you may repent and find reconciliation.

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. What food might this contain? The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning: There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house! The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me." " I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. "Be assured you are in my prayers." The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose." So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital , and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock.
To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness. So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a friend.

Dear Bishop Herzog, I am writing today, sadly, to let you know that things with John Mugo Mwangi continue to disintegrate here in Dallas. He has displayed behavior which is not consistent with gospel values of honesty and integrity. As John has affiliated himself with the American Anglican Church, I am writing specifically to make sure that you are aware of three very serious concerns. (1) John is not a priest in good standing in the Diocese of Thika or any diocese in the Anglican Church of Kenya. Because he is under discipline for good cause, his credentials are invalid for transfer to you or any other Anglican bishop. I have talked personally with John’s bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Gideon Githiga, Bishop of Thika (Kenya), and learned from him that John has been “sacked” from the Diocese of Thika “for issues of pastoral integrity,” that he has been “defrocked,” that he has “caused a lot of harm in the diocese,” that he is “not a man of good character,” and that he is “extremely dangerous.” I told Bishop Githaga that I was going to be sharing these things with you. I have been told that John is working illegally at a local convenience store and that he is being paid by the group of people he has gathered around himself. I’m sure you agree that ministers of the gospel should be diligent in abiding by the just laws of the land in which they serve. (3) John continues to cause scandal and division among the faithful here in Dallas. He has sewn much confusion, splitting apart friends and even family members. He has defamed my colleague, the Rev. Jacob Muiruri. Valuable resources have been spent defending Trinity’s ministry against untruth. The name of the Anglican Church has been abused. Part of John’s strategy seems to be to attack Trinity for its association with the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, suggesting that we support liberal theology, gay clergy, etc. Nothing could be further from the truth, yet many have been confused and wounded by the claim.

Bishop, I am very sorry to have to write you in this way about John’s behavior, but I believe you need to know what is going on. In all due respect, we urge you to take immediate action to prevent further scandal among the flock of Christ. Specifically, we ask you, as the one under whom John says he is operating, to direct John to stop his church plant, to repent of his misbehavior, to submit to church authority (Bishop Githiga), to dismiss his followers (with an apology), and to get back to his studies until such time as he might be restored to the ministry. Please do what you can to help us, Bishop. Jacob has worked very hard for eight years, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, to build this ministry, and it is sad to see it being attacked and destroyed by one we had previously loved and trusted.

Lessons for us all

As i write this blog, one of our own, Rev. Mugo wa Mwangi is is sitting in a cell because of trying to make in America like anyone else.
For the people who are new to the events, the idea of moving out and starting his own church made some "leaders" so mad that they did what you may not expect from your fellow Kenyan, writing a letter to immigration department and requesting his deportation.

Those who did this callous act we know them by their names, and i will promise to you as i said before, the sword of injustice swings both ways; and your turn may come too.
As we all know, this merry-go -round called America, life is too short. We tend to meet at uneven bridges from time to time.And unless you are a pretty swimmer, its a damn good idea to leave the bridge intact when you cross over the other side, You may need it too when coming back.
I know some of you are asking; why should i care, it has not happened to me YET.Remember the old poem "First they came…"attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller. It says;
"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then... they came for me... And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

We need leaders who are willing to unite us, not divide and rule. We need to call them out by their names, and that is what will save us as KENYANS.
